Announcing the youth winners of the arts advocacy poster contest!

A huge thank you to everyone who submitted – your posters are wonderful!

Our 1st-place youth winner is Naia Thompson.

“I made this poster using colored pencils, a sharpie, normal pencils, and a ruler here and there. I made a 17” x 11” poster of some unique places in NM representing the art of the land. The base of the drawing is a softball field; and on different sections of the field, there are slivers of different places of the land that I’ve visited during a softball tournament. For example, I drew a little bit of Carlsbad, Ruidoso, Albuquerque, Las Cruces, and Farmington. I chose the softball field base because I wanted to incorporate a little bit of myself into the drawing. My New Mexico arts poster was inspired by the abstract qualities of David Hockney’s landscape art.”

Our honorable mention poster is by Giavanna Almanzar.

“This art piece I have created contains many different symbols that represent New Mexico. Art like this is important because it tells the history of New Mexico. History is important because it tells the past. The past is important because we need it to create the future.”
